After all the exertions involved in learning about agriculture last week, I thought I could do with a less didactic post this week. Here is another of the quilts we had lining the wedding marquee. This I made for my son but again it is made of assorted scraps left over from his sisters’ dresses and one or two of the fabrics also made their appearance on the star quilt (which was in fact made later). Once again the background, the border and most of the patterned fabrics are viyella, the rest are either Liberty wool and cotton or Laura Ashley brushed cotton.
Both the ships (as well as the two topsails below) were Liberty fabrics and the top one on the right was fabric left over from a dress I made for myself – I loved this print and wore the dress to death.
On the left is another much loved fabric, this time Laura Ashley brushed cotton. I had many metres of this, made a dress for me, one for the girls that got handed down (never worn at the same time, that would have been horrific), a shawl for a ballet show that went on to be draped over sofas……..and bits ended up on quilts. The quilt was hand stitched and hand quilted.
