Baby’s christening bonnet in English smock embroidery

This is the bonnet to go with the christening dress shown here. After washing it, I couldn’t resist adding more lines of embroidery in between the pin tucks and I stopped embroidering when I ran out of pin tucks. Originally, the bonnet had ribbons attached at either side to fasten under the chin but I think most babies would get rather irritated with ribbons and bows, so I haven’t yet replaced the ribbons as I’m wondering whether to attach it to a small headband instead. I’ll look for a headband but when I pack it up, I’ll probably put ribbons on and include a headband, if I find one, as an alternative when the dress and hat are next used.

Beautiful, Mary. Be careful it isn’t commandeered for the royal baby.
