A sweet little quilt hand made by daughter No 2 for her new nephew, using all sorts of wonderful greens and blues balanced with white squares. When daughter No. 2 returned to Vietnam, it was given to me for completion. She had begun binding the quilt with some figured green velvet but when I got home I could only find velvet enough for 3 edges. I put the quilt to one side, expecting the other piece of velvet to turn up and when it didn’t I cut bias binding out of another piece from her stash of fabric – a turquoise which I thought she might approve of. The binding finished and the border quilting about to begin, up pops daughter No. 3 and immediately finds the missing piece of velvet. Foolishly, I let something slip about my thinking the turquoise was a much better colour for the edging and in that moment I caught a look in daughter No. 3’s eye that suggested she suspected I had lost the emerald velvet on purpose and that this would be viewed as a criticism, even an invasion into daughter No 2’s design. Fortunately, it is a long way to Vietnam and as daughter No 2 is not one for harbouring grudges, I think all will be well when I next see her. Meanwhile, her are some close-ups of the pretty fabrics used.
