What is it?

Mystery object

Mystery object

I found this on a pile of toy boxes in the top cupboard of the spare bedroom wardrobe and I remembered how much I enjoyed the activity associated with it. So…I dusted it down, bought a bit of dowling to mend it and off I shall go…

For a couple of weeks I am on holiday from work and looking after my grandson, so posting may get erratic. It’s lovely to be back in London, where I lived for nearly 30 years and it’s also really lovely to be looking after a 6 month old baby – surprisingly really lovely. I’m no longer trying to decorate a 6 bedroom house on a shoestring, I’m not worrying about having a career nor am I worrying about what school he’ll go to. I know I’ve done this before – well 4 times before – and I know they all turned out fine. I’ve got time to enjoy the smiles in the middle of the night when we should be sleeping,  the food going everywhere (not my floor) and the beginnings of getting mobile (it’s not me who will go out and buy gates for the doorways, child proof catches and rugs for the painted floors). I thought having a grandchild might be rather wonderful but never quite thought it would be as good as this.

If I have time, I’ll tell you what the mysterious machine is tomorrow.

Fascinated! I am guessing it may be some kind of weaving or lace making machine? Would love to know. Enjoy your time with your grandson; we all occasionally have our golden moments and it sounds like this fortnight might be one for you!

It’s so much easier being a granny than a mother. There’s more time to just watch and enjoy this time round.

Have fun with your grandson they do grow up so quickly and what a joy to be sharing his little world now.

I think the machine above is perhaps a musical instrument?????

I am having fun – even when I’d really prefer to be sleeping.
As you might have seen, the machine is for gathering up fabric for smocking.
