Another little jacket for a baby of 3 months which I have rather lingered over, and now the baby is approaching that age I’ve had to put a bit of a spurt on to finish it.

Ever since I saw floral embroidery on a woollen cardigan in Debbie Bliss’s The Baby Knit Book (Ebury Press 2002, see pictures below) I’ve wanted to have a go with woollen embroidery but I kept coming up with all sorts of reasons why it might not be a good idea. Then, faced with a finished, perfectly plain little boxy cardigan which was just asking for a bit of embellishment, I just got on with it and threw myself in. At various points I was ready to unpick everything but putting it aside for a day or so and then coming back to it gave it a bit of perspective. Now I think it’s ok, the stitching’s not too bulky and it should wash well if laid out flat and smoothed over.

I’ve done cotton embroidery on ready made cotton knit cardigan’s for little girls before (see here & here) but never tackled anything more chunky. Perhaps I’ll do something similar for my own granddaughter now.

It’s a gorgeous little cardigan, and I especially love the embellishment on the back!
Thank you Rachel.
Lucky little girl though I suppose she’s a little young to appreciate your fine work.
I hope it isn’t a depressing subject but what happened to the Ipsden altar cloth?
Nice to hear from you again, Anne and thank you for your kind words.
Moving twice in a year and all the necessary re-organisation had put the altar frontal on hold, but I’m aiming to have a real push forward with it from now on. It is never out of my mind and I’m more than keen to get it finished. No longer having a nice big table to lay it out on to tack batting and lining is a bit of a problem (scrabbling on knees on the floor is no longer an option!) but I’ll sort something out.
This is just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing with us. I am doing a bit of catching up today.
Thank you Amara.
